Bargain Buys: Beauty

I am quite new to using makeup. My routine on the rare occasion when I did apply some makeup used to consist of a bit of mascara, covering up my blemishes and something on the lips. But recently I’ve found myself getting more into and excited about beauty products. So I thought I would share with you some of the more affordable products I have recently discovered…

No 25 Spiced Cinnamon Candle, Primark, £2.50.

This Candle comes in a range of scents including Plum Blossom & Vanilla and Sweet Fig but I thought I would feature the Spiced Cinnamon candle as it’s perfect for this time of year. The smell of this is not overwhelming and artificial but leaves the room smelling wonderfully of winter spices. I have this candle burning beside me as I write this and it produces this lovely warming glow through the red glass which also has some subtle sparkle inlaid. The candle has a burning time of up to 30 hours which is fantastic and perfect for me as I like to burn my candles throughout the evening which means I often burn through a lot of candles very quickly!

Collection Velvet Kiss Lip Cream, £2.99.

The last few months I have been obsessed with lip products and have bought quite a lot of lipsticks but this Lip Cream has honestly been one of my best buys so far. I seem to have the kind of lips that lipstick just won’t stay on for very long, one sip of coffee and all the lipstick transfers onto the mug! But the Velvet Kiss Lip Cream has some of the best staying power of the products I have tried, no doubt due to the matte finish. I also find it doesn’t dry out the lips like most matte lip products do as it also has moisturising properties. I bought the Caramel shade which is a beautiful nude colour and goes really well with day makeup. I really like the look of the plum coloured Lip Cream and I think that might be one of my next buys!

Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub, Lush, £5.50.

Since I started wearing a lot more lip products, especially the matte lipsticks, I’ve been trying to treat my lips so they don’t dry out. A lip scrub is great for getting rid of dead skin and leaves them soft and smooth. I especially love the range at Lush because they smell and taste amazing! If you have a sweet tooth then I highly recommend the Bubblegum Lip Scrub as it tastes just like, well, bubblegum…

Studio Contour Brush, Superdrug, £4.99.

As a makeup novice I have found the price range of makeup brushes quite intimidating, especially since I didn’t really know how to use the more specialised ones. So I’ve started with the more basic brushes and recently bought this one as I wanted to give contouring a try. I used this brush with the Ultra Sculpt & Contour Kit which has worked quite well with the application and spreading aspects but I would say that it’s perhaps too soft to thoroughly blend. Overall, this brush is great for getting started in makeup or if you’re looking for an affordable brush that still does the job.

PS… Hairbrush, Primark, £1.00.

For the price this is a really nice brush and it’s pretty much perfect for my hair. It seems to glide quite smoothly through my hair and untangles knots without having to force it through my hair. I will say that I have quite smooth hair that usually doesn’t get too tangled so I’m not sure how well this would work with hair that tends to get very tangled.

Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick, £6.99.

I really like this lipstick range, it has some beautiful colours and has great staying power. I find that when I wear this lipstick I only have to top it up once or twice a day which is very good when it comes to my lips! The colour I use the most is the 810 The Matte Factor shade which is a stunning rich warm wine colour and is perfect for this time of year. This lipstick isn’t as good as the Collection Lip Cream at keeping the lips moisturised but in comparison to other brands I’ve tried it does a good job at keeping the lips from drying out.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Sculpt & Contour Kit, £3.50.

What I love most about this product is the size and look. It’s perfect for fitting into makeup bags without taking up too much space which is perfect for me as I only take a small makeup bag with me which has a few essentials inside. The kit includes a bronzer, highlighter and blusher and I use the Ultra Fair shade as I am quite pale (especially in the winter!). Because of this I cannot use too much of the bronzer without looking blotchy but overall I like how this works on my face and I think it’s going to become one of my makeup staples.

So…

My absolute favourites from this list are the Spiced Cinnamon Candle, the Velvet Kiss Lip Cream and The Only 1 Matte Lipstick. They are great value for money and I am getting a lot of use out of them. However, all of these products are great buys for beauty lovers on a budget and don’t compromise on quality.

I hope you find this list useful,  as I mentioned I am new to the makeup world and I’m quite enjoying getting to know new products and experimenting with my look and style. If you have any suggestions feel free to let me know!
